Menu at The Royal Yew
Whether you're calling in for a quick bite or settling in for the evening, there's plenty on offer at The Royal Yew. Below is a flavour of what you'll find, from sharing starters through to our famous Cow Pie and beyond.
Starters
Kick things off with something proper: Creamy garlic mushrooms with crispy toasted ciabatta, brie wedges in a crisp golden batter with chilli jam, or a classic prawn cocktail with crusty sourdough. For something heartier, the black pudding stack, layered with Cumberland sausage and crispy bacon under a peppercorn sauce, is a firm favourite.
The Cow Pie
No visit to The Royal Yew is complete without trying the dish we're known for. Our Cow Pie is more than a kilogram of tender, succulent beef steak chunks, cooked low and slow until perfectly tender, all wrapped in shortcrust pastry. Served with your choice of proper chips or creamy mashed potatoes, fresh seasonal vegetables and lashings of gravy, it's earned its place as one of the best-loved pies in West Cumbria. Available in full, half and quarter portions, so there's a size for every appetite.
Burgers
From the ultimate double beef burger with crispy bacon and melted cheese, to a buttermilk chicken burger with chipotle mayonnaise, or the Moving Mountains vegan burger for something plant-based, all served with proper chips, hand-battered onion rings, coleslaw and mixed salad.
On the Grill
Steak lovers are well catered for, with a 28-day aged rump steak, char-grilled lamb chops, and a mixed grill piling chicken, lamb chop, Cumberland sausage, black pudding and rump steak onto one plate, topped with a fried egg.
Land or Sea
A varied choice of mains including teriyaki pork belly, beef in Guinness, oven-baked seabass, beef lasagne and wholetail scampi, alongside lighter options like sizzling vegetables and mushroom stroganoff for vegetarian and vegan diners.
A Bit on the Side
Proper chips, cheesy proper chips, hand-battered onion rings, garlic ciabatta and more, perfect for sharing or adding to any main.
Little One's Menu
Younger diners are well looked after too, with cheeseburgers, Cumberland sausage, chicken nuggets, fish fingers and a margarita pizza, all served with proper chips.
Desserts
Round things off with a rhubarb and ginger crumble, sticky toffee pudding, or the cheesecake of the day, plus a choice of English Lakes ice cream.
